GUITAR, BASS + UKULELE LESSONS

At Michigan Academy of Dance + Arts, students have the opportunity to study guitar, bass, and ukulele through personalized private instruction designed to foster creativity, musicianship, and confidence. As part of our comprehensive performing arts programs, music lessons provide students with a strong foundation while encouraging artistic growth and self-expression in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Lessons are led by accomplished musician and educator Kevin Rootes, whose extensive teaching and performance experience allows him to tailor instruction to each student's individual goals, interests, and learning style. Whether a student is picking up an instrument for the first time or seeking to further develop their skills, lessons are designed to build technique, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Instruction is available for students of all ages and experience levels. Students may choose to study guitar, bass, or ukulele—or explore multiple instruments to discover the musical path that inspires them most.

Ongoing Sessions

Lesson Length: 45 Minutes
Schedule: Ongoing 4-Week Sessions
Tuition: $180 per 4-Week Session
Available Lesson Times: Monday Evenings or Wednesday Afternoons

With over 30 years of experience, Kevin Rootes has dedicated his life to music and to sharing his passion with others. He believes learning an instrument goes beyond technique—it’s about creativity, confidence, and joy. Kevin has worked with students of all ages and skill levels, bringing a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies to every lesson.

Kevin customizes his teaching to match each student’s interests and goals, creating a supportive environment where growth happens naturally. His lessons foster a fun, creative atmosphere that keeps students motivated and engaged. Whether you’re starting guitar, bass, or ukulele for the first time, or looking to refine your skills, Kevin guides students with patience, encouragement, and a deep love for music. His goal is to help every student unlock their musical potential while enjoying the process.

  • Ages 6 through adult

  • Open to everyone – you don’t have to be a MADA student

  • Bring your own instrument, or borrow one for the trial
