How Class Placement Works

At Michigan Academy of Dance + Arts, student placement is based first on individual skill level, and then on age. Each student is carefully evaluated by our instructors to ensure they are placed in a class that is both challenging and appropriate for their current abilities.

While age ranges and experience levels are listed on our schedule for guidance, it’s important to note that these are averages. We believe every dancer progresses at their own pace, and we prioritize safe, technically sound training that allows each student to thrive.

Building on 50 Years of Artistic Excellence

At MADA, we believe in placing each dancer where they will thrive. While classes are grouped by age for general guidance, final placement is based on skill level, as assessed by our experienced instructors. You may notice overlapping age ranges between classes—this is intentional and allows for flexibility in meeting the needs of individual students.

Each dancer is thoughtfully placed in a program that supports both their technical development and personal growth. Our mission is to provide safe, challenging, and well-rounded training that nurtures a lifelong appreciation for dance.

Returning dancers: Please refer to your skill chart from the previous season for the most accurate placement guidance.
